We are saddened to hear of the passing of Sqn Ldr Gordon
Barker HABGOOD on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, peacefully, at
Anthony Wilding Retirement Village, aged 72. Habby joined the RNZAF
as a Nav in 1969 and went on to be involved with 5 Sqn and the
Maritime world for all of his 20 plus years in the Air
Force. He was a Tacco on 5 Sqn in the 70’s,and served in
Marops and BaseOps. He is best described by his contemporaries as
absolutely diligent and totally dedicated to the role, always giving
his job the very best. Outside of the Air Force he was a mountaineer
(last climb recorded at Canterbury Mounteering Club being 2013), was
a JP, and a strong supporter of the Lincoln community where he
lived. Habgood Transport was a long established firm in the town.
Habby was instrumental in getting a War Memorial for Lincoln and was
a member of the Springston RSA. He was active member of the Catalina
Syndicate and flew as crew. RIP Habby.
